Most visitors, whether for sightseeing or business purposes, need to apply for a China visa in advance, unless they are from Japan, Brunei, or Singapore. Before working out your China travel plan, it is important to check whether you are covered by the visa-free policies in China (https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/intro2.htm).
Please check the latest policies with your local Chinese embassy/consulate, as terms may vary by purpose of visit or nationality.
